What is Counselling and Therapy?Counselling and therapy are seen as ‘talking treatments’ where people are able to express their thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a safe supportive and confidential environment in order to reach personal resolution of the issues troubling them.Therapy and counselling are words used to describe these talking treatments and are words often used to mean the same process, that is one of talking to a trained counsellor or therapist to reach resolution. This process encourages people to talk openly about what is troubling them. A counsellor/ therapist will listen carefully to what you say. The aim is to help you become clearer about the extent and affect of the issue, so as to recognise possible solutions. Or develop new ways of coping. We all live in very stressful times with pressures of many kinds to deal with and solve. Sometimes it helps to talk through these pressures and issues with someone who is not part of our daily lives. This enables us to see issues and problems from a different point of view and helps us to recognise our own ability to solve or learn new ways of dealing with the situation. People use counselling and therapy to address, understand and heal a wide range of life issues including; Anxiety -- Stress -- Panic Attacks -- Life changes -- Low Mood -- Unresolved Childhood Events -- Relationship Issues -- Divorce Recovery -- Bereavement, Grief -- Loss -- Trauma Recovery -- Emotional Understanding -- Anger Management -- Relaxation, learning to enjoy -- Self Esteem -- Confidence Building -- Work Related Stress Most people who have received counselling have said they have grown personally as a result, and have benefited from learning new life skills through self discovery.
